This Committee was established in 2002 with the following remit:

1. To advise and assist members on issues relating to professional standards and risk management. In particular to offer advice on matters relating to care of vascular patients.

2. To liaise with the Professional Standards Committees of the Royal Colleges and other groups concerned with clinical governance.

3. To advise Council on the response of the Society to specific medico-legal cases or complaints against vascular surgeons, including responses to media and the police.

4. To nominate vascular specialists who are prepared to offer advice and wisdom in confidence and who might visit hospitals on request.

5. To advise Council on governance issues relating to the National Vascular Database.

6. To obtain information about vascular medico-legal cases, through close liaison with litigation authorities, defence societies, and other relevant bodies.
