Appointed Professor and Head of Surgery, University of Manchester in 1989 and Honorary Consultant Surgeon, Manchester University Hospitals. Tertiary referral practice in complex vascular surgery before ceasing operating in 2015. Chairs the Greater Manchester Complex MDT, Director of the Greater Manchester AAA Screening Programme and now focused on research. Since now retired in April 2020 however still holding role as Emeritus Professor of Surgery at University of Manchester.
Current research, funded by a European Union Horizon 2020 grant, BHF and the NIHR is focussed on developing 3-D tomographic ultrasound imaging for vascular disease, carotid plaque volume as an indicator of stroke risk, pelvic vein incompetence in women, and risk-prediction modelling for major surgery.
