Introduction to Vascular Surgery Course

The course consists of short talks about a career in Vascular Surgery and a chance to see and practise some hands-on Vascular surgical skills with current trainees using jigs and simulators. The delegates will gain knowledge and skills in open surgical techniques including arterial patch repair and arteriotomy, as well as basics in endovascular surgery

This year, we are delighted to expand the competition to invite entries from medical students, foundation doctors (FY1-3) and core trainees as two separate categories. The essay title prompts are detailed on our website.
1) The Nellix endovascular aneurysm sealing system and Paclitaxel coated balloons were withdrawn from use due to proven patient safety issues. How can we ensure in future that new technologies are safe for our patients?
2) What can vascular surgeons do to improve the recruitment and retention of trainees in vascular surgery?
3) The new AAA NICE guidance suggests EVAR is not cost effective in patients unfit for open repair. What can we do to improve patients’ fitness for open AAA repair?
